Pumpkin & Rice Mash for Babies

Soft pumpkin blended with cooked rice makes a creamy, gently flavoured spoon-fed mash. Use rice that is already fully cooked; uncooked rice would require additional preparation time.

Ingredients

  • 1/4 cup (about 45g) fully cooked soft rice
  • 1/2 cup (about 75g) peeled, deseeded pumpkin flesh, diced
  • Safe water, only if needed for blending

Preparation

  1. Remove the pumpkin's hard rind, seeds and stringy fibres, and dice the flesh into small, even pieces.

  2. Steam the pumpkin until its thickest piece crushes easily with a fork. Use freshly cooked tender rice, or rice that has been cooled quickly and stored correctly.

  3. Blend or mash pumpkin and rice with a little safe water until moist and spoonable, without firm pumpkin or sticky compact rice. Cool before feeding and follow the strict rice storage guidance.
