Silky Pumpkin Soup for Babies

Pumpkin turns velvety when cooked until fully tender and blended with a little water. Keep this simple soup thick enough to serve on a spoon rather than watering it down into a thin broth.

Ingredients

  • 1 cup (about 150g) peeled, deseeded pumpkin flesh, diced
  • 3–4 tbsp safe water, plus a little more only if needed

Preparation

  1. Remove all hard rind, seeds and stringy fibres from the pumpkin. Cut the flesh into small, similarly sized cubes.

  2. Steam or simmer the cubes until the largest piece crushes easily with a fork; cook longer than the estimated time if still firm.

  3. Blend until completely smooth, adding safe water a spoonful at a time for a moist, spoonable consistency. Stir well, check for hard pieces and cool before serving.

Serving by Age

Offer as a smooth, thick spoon-fed purée for beginners. Gradually thicken to a completely soft mash as feeding skills develop; this pumpkin-only dish is a vegetable accompaniment, not a complete meal.

6 months+

Smooth, moist, spoonable pumpkin purée with no firm pieces.

9 months+

A thicker, entirely soft pumpkin mash as baby's skills allow.

Allergen Information

Plain pumpkin and water do not intentionally introduce common major food allergens; individual reactions are still possible. Check any additions separately.

Storage

Cool untouched cooked soup promptly and refrigerate in a covered container. Use within 2 days; if reheating, heat until steaming hot throughout, stir and cool before feeding. Discard leftovers from baby's bowl.
