Ingredients

  • 1/4 cup (about 45g) fully cooked soft white beans, ideally without added salt
  • 1/2 zucchini, washed and diced
  • 1/2 small potato, peeled and finely diced
  • 1 tsp olive oil
  • Safe water or unsalted cooking liquid, as needed

Preparation

  1. Use white beans that are fully cooked and tender, never raw or only soaked; rinse no-added-salt canned beans and simmer further if skins remain tough.

  2. Peel and dice the potato evenly. Steam or simmer potato first until partly tender.

  3. Add washed, diced zucchini; continue cooking until both vegetables crush easily with a fork. Remove any unusually tough zucchini peel.

  4. Blend or finely mash the beans and cooked vegetables with enough safe liquid to make a soft, moist spoonable purée. Check that no round whole beans or firm skins remain.

  5. Stir in olive oil, cool to feeding temperature and check consistency before serving.

Serving by Age

Offer warm, not hot, as a moist spoonable purée. Every bean should be fully cooked and blended or crushed; make sure the texture is not thick, dry or gluey.

8 months+

This recipe is listed for 8–12 months, so the 6m+ field does not recommend serving it earlier.

9 months+

Soft mash with mashed white beans and tender vegetables, never intact firm beans.

Allergen Information

White beans are legumes and may cause allergic reactions, even though they are not one of the usual major listed allergens. Check canned bean ingredients and avoid added salt.

Storage

Cool any untouched cooked portion promptly, refrigerate covered within 1–2 hours and use within 24 hours for a conservative baby-food approach, or freeze promptly. Reheat only once until steaming hot throughout, stir thoroughly and cool before feeding. Discard anything left in the baby's bowl.
